Jennings - Legal Services Commission - Costs Draftsmen

Getting Paid by the LSC

Once a case has concluded, all that is left to do is to submit a claim for payment. Although this sounds straightforward, our clients tend not to have the time (or inclination) to deal with submitting their bills to Court dealing with Counsel, preparing the assessment certificate, re-submitting the forms to the Court and, eventually, submitting their claim to the Legal Services Commission.

Instead, most choose to let Jennings relieve them of this burden and process claims on their behalf. We carry out the following steps:

»Costing the file and returning the Bill of Costs/Claim 1 to you for checking and endorsement of the relevant documents.

»Preparing Claim 2 where appropriate.

»Serving the Bill of Costs on clients with a financial interest. Lodging the bill at Court for provisional assessment, together with the necessary documents.

»Checking the provisionally assessed bill, notifying Counsel of any reductions and enquiring whether you require detailed assessment.

»Completing the Legal Aid assessment certificate and Claim 1 and sending them to you to be signed. Obtaining the sealed Legal Aid assessment certificate from Court.

»Submitting relevant documents to the Legal Services Commission for payment.

»Chasing the Legal Services Commission regarding payment of the claim and dealing with any queries arising.

Jennings legal services relieves the burden of their clients by submitting claims to the Legal Services Commission on their behalf.
